Cucumber Ottu Shyavige

  • Chopped cucumber(Skinless)1/2 cup
  • Raw rice 1 cup
  • Jaggery ¾ cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Cardamom powder ½ Tsp


"Cucumber Ottu Shyavige" a traditional uttara kannada havyaka brahmins  sweet dish. Banana shyavige is a authentic and typical recipe from western ghat of karnataka. Today's recipe is a innovative version of the banana shyavige, required ingredients and making procedure explained below, prepare and give the feedback. 

Wash & Soak rice atleast  for 4 to 5 hours.

Then grind soaked rice, jaggery, chopped cucumber together and make a fine paste. (Batter should be in dosa batter consistency). then  add cardamom and salt to batter, mix well.

Pour the batter in container and steam for 20 to 25 in idli cooker.

Then take a steamed mixture in spatula and place it to ottu shyavige machine cup and press or rotate the handle.

Serve the shyavige with ghee.
